Tzedek Tuesdays!

Shalom Gators!

Did your temple ever run a canned food drive around the High Holy Days? Have you donated to the drive? Well guess what? UF Hillel will be having its own canned food drive this year!

Hunger is something that we still face today, in the US and around the world. According to Mazon, as of 2006, there are over 36 million Americans, including 13 million children, who suffer from hunger or do not have enough food. As we fast on Yom Kippur, we are told to deny ourselves sustenance in order to better focus on t’shuvah (repentance), t’filah (prayer) and tzedakah (charity) but also to recognize those who suffer the pain of hunger throughout the year.  The Prophet Isaiah said if there is still hunger in the world, then our prayers are not done.

So here is your chance to help relieve hunger here in Gainesville! Bring in HEALTHY canned food items any time between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur and we will donate the items to a local food bank.

You can also help fight hunger all year through our Challahfor Hunger program! More info to come soon!

L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu! May you all have a sweet new year!
